# Auto Roles

> Give roles to new members automatically, keep roles across rejoins, and hand out roles that expire.

## Autoroles

Every new member gets these roles the moment they join.

```javascript Syntax theme={null}
,autorole add (role)
```

```javascript Example theme={null}
,autorole add Member
```

| Command | What it does |
| - | - |
| `,autorole remove (role)` | Stop giving a role |
| `,autorole list` | See every autorole |
| `,autorole reset` | Remove all autoroles |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Requires **Manage Roles**. Members caught by [antiraid](/security/antiraid) don't receive autoroles.

## Sticky roles

A sticky role is given back to a member whenever they rejoin — useful for punishment roles people try to escape by leaving.

```javascript Syntax theme={null}
,stickyrole add (member) (role)
```

```javascript Example theme={null}
,stickyrole add financely VIP
```

| Command | What it does |
| - | - |
| `,stickyrole remove (member) (role)` | Remove one sticky role |
| `,stickyrole removeall (member)` | Remove all of a member's sticky roles |
| `,stickyrole list` | See every sticky role |
| `,stickyrole clear` | Clear every sticky role in the server |

> [!WARNING]
>
> Sticky roles are kept for **3 days** after a member leaves. If they haven't rejoined by then, their sticky roles are removed.

## Temporary roles

Give a member a role that's taken away again after a set time.

```javascript Syntax theme={null}
,temprole (member) (duration) (role)
```

```javascript Example theme={null}
,temprole financely 1h @Event Access
```

| Command | What it does |
| - | - |
| `,temprole remove (member) (role)` | End a temporary role early |
| `,temprole list` | See every active temporary role |
| `,temprole clear` | Remove every temporary role |

See [Syntax](/resources/syntax#durations) for how durations are written.
