# Counting

> Give your server a channel where members count upward together.

## How it works

Pick a channel and members take turns posting the next number. misery reacts to confirm each valid count and tracks how far your server has gotten. One mistake resets everything back to zero.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Every command here requires **Manage Server**.

## Setting it up

```javascript Syntax theme={null}
,counting set (channel)
```

```javascript Example theme={null}
,counting set #counting
```

Channel names work as well as mentions. The count starts at **1**.

misery needs **View Channel**, **Send Messages**, and **Add Reactions** in that channel.

## Playing

Post the next number and misery reacts:

| Reaction | Meaning |
| - | - |
| ✅ | Counted |
| ☑️ | Counted, and you've beaten the server record |
| ❌ | Wrong — the count is back to zero |

### What resets the count

> **Posting the wrong number**
>
> Skipping ahead or repeating a number both end the run.

> **Posting anything that isn't a number**
>
> Chatting in the counting channel resets it. Keep conversation somewhere else.

> **Counting twice in a row**
>
> Unless you've allowed it, someone else has to take the next number.

## Same-user rule

By default one member can't post two numbers in a row.

```javascript Syntax theme={null}
,counting sameuser (yes or no)
```

```javascript Example theme={null}
,counting sameuser yes
```

Set it to `yes` and a single member can carry the count alone.

## Checking your progress

```javascript theme={null}
,counting config
```

Shows the channel, the current number, your server's record, and whether the same-user rule is active.

## Starting over

```javascript theme={null}
,counting reset
```

Puts the count back to zero. Your record stays intact.

## Turning it off

```javascript theme={null}
,counting disable
```

Clears the channel setting entirely.
