# Permissions

> Every permission misery recognizes and what each one unlocks.

## Overview

These are the permission names misery accepts wherever a permission is expected — most commonly with [Fake Permissions](/security/fake-permissions), where you grant a role access to misery's commands without handing over the real Fluxer permission.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Names are always lowercase with underscores. Separate several with commas or spaces: `,fp add @Mod ban_members, kick_members`

## Moderation

| Permission | Unlocks |
| - | - |
| `ban_members` | Banning and unbanning members |
| `kick_members` | Removing members from the server |
| `manage_messages` | Deleting, purging, and pinning messages, plus mutes and jails |
| `manage_nicknames` | Editing other members' nicknames |
| `change_nickname` | Editing their own nickname |
| `view_audit_log` | Reading the server's audit log |

## Voice

| Permission | Unlocks |
| - | - |
| `mute_members` | Server-muting members in voice channels |
| `deafen_members` | Server-deafening members in voice channels |
| `move_members` | Dragging members between voice channels |

## Server management

| Permission | Unlocks |
| - | - |
| `administrator` | Everything below, and every command misery offers to staff |
| `manage_guild` | Server-level settings and most of misery's configuration commands |
| `manage_channels` | Creating, editing, and deleting channels |
| `manage_roles` | Creating roles and assigning them to members |
| `manage_webhooks` | Managing the server's webhooks |
| `manage_expressions` | Managing emojis and stickers |

> [!WARNING]
>
> `administrator` is all-or-nothing. Granting it through fake permissions gives that role the run of every misery command — treat it the way you'd treat the real thing.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Fake permissions only count for misery's commands. They never change what members can do in Fluxer itself.

## Where these are blocked

Self-assignable roles can't carry moderation power, so [reaction roles](/configuration/roles/reaction-roles), [level rewards](/engagement/levels#reward-roles), and giveaway reward roles reject any role holding one of these:

`administrator` · `manage_guild` · `manage_channels` · `manage_messages` · `kick_members` · `ban_members` · `moderate_members` · `manage_roles` · `manage_threads` · `view_audit_log` · `manage_webhooks` · `manage_expressions` · `mention_everyone`
