# Honeypot

> Stop compromised accounts from spreading malicious content in your server.

## How it works

You set up a channel nobody has any reason to post in, and misery posts a warning telling members not to. Anyone who posts there anyway gets punished automatically.

Compromised accounts and self-bots blast every channel they can see. A real member reads the warning and moves on; a hijacked account posts its scam link and gets caught immediately.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Every command here requires **Manage Server**.

> [!NOTE]
>
> The server owner, members with **Manage Server** or **Administrator**, and anyone with a `,staff` role are exempt — staff won't trip the honeypot.

## Setting it up

```javascript Syntax theme={null}
,honeypot set (channel)
```

```javascript Example theme={null}
,honeypot set #do-not-type
```

misery posts the warning as soon as you set it, and its footer keeps count of how many accounts it has caught.

> [!TIP]
>
> Put the honeypot somewhere visible near the top of your channel list. It only works if the accounts spamming your server can see it.

misery needs **View Channel**, **Send Messages**, and **Manage Messages** there.

### Re-posting the warning

If the message gets deleted or buried:

```javascript theme={null}
,honeypot repost
```

## Choosing the punishment

```javascript Syntax theme={null}
,honeypot punishment (ban, kick, or jail)
```

```javascript Example theme={null}
,honeypot punishment ban
```

| Punishment | Result |
| - | - |
| `ban` | Removes the account permanently and clears its last hour of messages |
| `kick` | Removes them, but they can rejoin |
| `jail` | Confines them to your jail channel for review |

The member is DMed about the punishment, and it's recorded as a case in your mod log.

> [!WARNING]
>
> `jail` needs your moderation system set up first — run `,setup` before choosing it.

Defaults to `kick`.

## Recording a reason

```javascript Syntax theme={null}
,honeypot reason (reason)
```

```javascript Example theme={null}
,honeypot reason Compromised account
```

This shows up in your audit log and moderation records.

## Checking your setup

```javascript theme={null}
,honeypot config
```

Shows the channel, punishment, and reason.

## Turning it off

```javascript theme={null}
,honeypot reset
```
